Kurilian Bobtail

History and Origin
The Kurilian Bobtail is rather a new and rare breed. It originates from Kuril islands in the Far East of Russia not from Japan. Only in the middle of the 20th century some Kurilians were brought to mainland Russia by the members of the military or scientist missions. Kurilians quickly gained popularity. The Kurilian was first shown in 1991 and then the first breed standard was adopted by Soviet Felenology Federation. The breed was officially recognized by WCF in 1995.
Size and Appearance
Dut to short tail, which is the distinguishing feature of the breed the Kurilian Bobtail looks in a very exotic way. The short tail is not a result of breeders’ selections but of a natural mutation. The Kurilian is a very natural breed and posses an excellent health.
The Kurilian Bobtail is a middle or large size muscular cat. The coat is of medium length, thick and silky, longer at cheeks and back with a distinct ruff.
Temperament and Personality
These cats have well-balanced character. Despite their wild look they are gentle, intellegent and enjoy human company. Kurilians used to be fisherman and hunter on their home islands and unlikely to other cats they like playing in wather.
